This tutorial will teach you how to set up your ExpressVPN Router App on the Linksys WRT1200AC, Linksys WRT1900AC(S), and Linksys WRT3200ACM. If you need help to figure out which model you’re using, please see this troubleshooting guide.
For non-Linksys routers, please see instructions for other router models.
Before setting up your router, check that you have the following items:
Linksys WRT1200AC: 1 router, 2 antennas, 1 network cable, and 1 power cable
Linksys WRT1900AC(S) and WRT3200ACM: 1 router, 4 antennas, 1 network cable, and 1 power cable
Connect the antennas to the back of the router (see the image above).
Plug the router to a power outlet and verify that the power switch at the back of the router is set to ON.
Connect router to internet
Connect one end of the internet cable to the yellow INTERNET port on the back of the router (see the image above).
- If you are using this router as your only (primary) router: connect the other end of the internet cable to your modem
(also, see Step 5 below)
- Recommended: If you are using this router as a secondary router: connect the other end of the internet cable to your current router
(No Ports? if there are no available ports on your current router, unplug a device you want to go through VPN, and use that now empty port to plug in the ExpressVPN Router. After completing setup, plug that device into your ExpressVPN router)
Wait until the power and internet lights on the front of the router are solid bars.
Access the router using Wi-Fi or cable
Connect (from your computer or phone) to the secure wireless network name found on the bottom of the router. This will be named Wireless Network/Réseau sans fil. Select the option to automatically connect in the future.
Enter the password, found at the bottom of your router, labeled Wireless Password/Mot de passe du réseau.
OPTIONAL: In the Wi-Fi panel, remove other ‘Preferred’ (Mac) or ‘Automatic’ (Windows) Wi-Fi networks. This ensures your device only connects to the secure ExpressVPN Router for all internet activities.
Note: You will not have VPN secured internet set up until you complete step 5 below.
Go to router admin page
Access www.expressvpnrouter.com in your web browser. If the URL does not work, you can access the ExpressVPN router dashboard by entering the router gateway address (e.g., 192.168.1.1, 192.168.132.1, etc.).
To begin the setup process, click Get Started.
Connect router to internet service provider
If you know your ISP username and password, enter it and click Connect. If not, click My ISP Has No Login.
If you have not activated your ExpressVPN account, sign in to your account, click Set Up ExpressVPN, and copy your 23-digit ExpressVPN activation code.
Paste the account activation code and hit Sign In.
Note: all devices connected to ExpressVPN will appear to be from your connected country.
Connect your devices
All devices connected to the internet via your ExpressVPN router (either through cable or Wi-Fi) will have its traffic tunneled through a secure VPN.
To connect any device to the VPN, plug its network cable into the ExpressVPN router or connect the device to the ExpressVPN router’s Wi-Fi. The sign in details are the same as in Step 3 above.

Browse through the available locations, then click on a location to connect to it.
You can also use the search bar to search for a location to connect to. Click on a location to connect to it.
